Inspired by the stone quarry of Queen Elizabeth Park and shaped by the energy of the site, the project proposes a transit-oriented dedicated Market Rental building. The proposed development is shaped to maximize views from and through the site in anticipation of development proposals to the south and west. Building forms bend and open to permit increased daylighting of courtyards and public spaces. The project site is a gateway location to the Queen Elizabeth park precinct and sits on the prominent intersection at King Edward Avenue and Cambie Street. The objective of our proposal is to bring forward a unique ‘transit-oriented’ dedicated residential rental project with a high standard of architectural design, form and expression. Scale, materiality and form are critical to consider in executing the shift from low density single-family to mid-density. The site development works to create a sensitive response in introducing mid-density scale to this single-family neighbourhood.
